Some of my favorite sled hills include the hill at Old School Forest Preserve, off St. Mary's Road in Libertyville and the sled hill at Lakewood Winter Sports Area, off Fairfield Road in Wauconda. Both of them are great hills that people of all ages will enjoy. The hill at Lakewood is lighted and open until 9pm that there is snow on the ground.
If you enjoy snowmobiling, the Lake County Forest Preserves has over 24 miles of trail that are designated for snowmobiling. The trails are groomed and patrolled by the Forest Preserves and volunteers. There is an 8 mile portion of the Des Plaines River Trail north of the trail split in Wadsworth near the Wadsworth Road Canoe Launch that is available. Some other trails are located at Lakewood, Ravens Glen and Rollins Savanna. You can also enjoy the trails for other outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing.
What are your favorite Lake County Forest Preserve trails? What other outdoor winter activities do you like to do at the Forest Preserves?
